Over the years, My wife Jan and I have composed a number of children’s songs together which she usually performs at the programs we do for schools and libraries. Sometimes I write the lyrics, sometimes she does. She writes the music and accompanies herself on guitar, auto-harp, and ukulele.
Macgooses Grocery and Other Songs was the first Children’s Album. All music was written by Jan Asch, lyrics by Jan Asch or Jan Asch and Frank Asch, Accompaniment on flute, percussion, hammer dulcimer, and mandolin by John Dickason. You will notice titles such as “Come Play With Me”, which is a poem by Frank Asch in a collection called Country Pie.
Some years later, Melissa Chesnut-Tangerman, wrote a wonderful “round” rendition for the book Barnyard Lullaby. A bunch of friends who are great singers got together and recorded it right here in Middletown Springs at Southview Arts recording studio. Singers include Melissa Chesnut-Tangerman, Jan Asch, Beth Miller, Shirley Oskamp, and Darcie Gannon. Violin by Laura Markowitz, sound effects by Southview Arts.
Since then other tunes have been recorded. Monsieur Saguette was inspired by the book of the same name.
The Bubblegum Song, composed for ukulele, song and lyrics by Jan Asch, is her most recent recording.
You can hear samples, purchase, and download the complete album and these other songs at her GooglePlay site here.
